CLIMBING HIGHER STRATEGY - Climbing Higher is the Welsh Assembly Government National Strategy for Sport and Physical Activity and has set out key targets for national and local organisations to encourage more people to become more active, more often over the next 20 years. Please note that the criteria for funding has changed and dance is now included in this strategy. In response to this National Strategy a number of local and national organisations including the Local Authority, Health Challenge Swansea (local health partnership) and the Sports Council for Wales amongst others have initiated a programme to review how Swansea will deliver Climbing Higher over the next 20 years. Work to date has included drafting a local response to the National Strategy and outlining key local themes and projects which will assist Swansea in its delivery of the targets set out by the Welsh Assembly Government. It is important at this stage that community clubs and groups contribute to the development of the local sports and physical activity strategy and action plan and understand the major targets, themes and funding opportunities that will be available from April 2007. If you are a sports or dance group and are a registered charity or constituted voluntary group please contact Steven Osborne on (01792) 635416 for further information or email steven.osborne@swansea.gov.uk

partnership between the Council and the arts community is called for. Phil Roberts,
Director of Regeneration says, 'Art is one of the critical elements in achieving
our ambition to become a distinctive European City. To do this, we need to develop
an arts strategy which recognises the crucial role of art and culture as a driver
for regeneration, the significance of art in relation to health and well being,
the importance of the creative industries in economic growth and the value of
art in the process of community regeneration.' For further information about
the Arts Strategy, please contact Nick McDonald on 01792 636557 or e-mail Nicholas.McDonald@swansea.gov.uk
